Hello procrastinators, I mean, writers.

Welcome to Writers Anonymous PH!

You know how writers are always addicted to new book ideas? How we’re always distracted by new plot bunnies? And how we love to tell people we’re working on a new manuscript? But in reality, all we have are a bunch of WIPs (works in progress).

Let’s admit it, we need help. And as a publisher and author, let me be the one to say it: we need a support group. So, we created Writers Anonymous PH—a monthly meet-up activity for writers who need to vent about their unfinished manuscripts.

What’s our goal? To make you feel that you’re not alone in this writing journey. As writers, especially aspiring book authors, we’re all nursing unfinished stories in our heads. The meet-up’s goal is to remind you that taking a break is okay, healthy even. Why? Because life happens. But don’t give up on your dreams.

And dreams should still have a deadline.

MEET-UP RULES

  • If you’re a writer (or aspiring writer), join us for the monthly meet-up.
  • Joining is 100% free. There is no entrance fee, but you’re required to pre-register so the organizers will know how many participants to expect.
  • The name and email address you will provide during the registration will be used to send you invites to the succeeding meetups.
  • Each WAPH meeting will have one (1) host in one (1) city.
  • The meeting will always happen at a coffee shop. While there is no entrance fee, participants are encouraged to buy their own drink/s or food/s from the café. There is no minimum amount to spend. You can buy one iced coffee or everything on the menu if your fictional characters are driving you mad.
  • Each WAPH meeting will start at 2:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. It’s okay to come in late, but we encourage you to arrive before 2:00 p.m. to secure your spot.

ROUND ROBIN DISCUSSIONS

  • Upon arrival, you will be assigned a number.
  • Organizers will use a randomizer to pull out a number.
  • When your number is called, you get 5 minutes to “vent” about your work/s in progress or concerns about writing. It should start with… “Hello, I’m [YOUR NAME].”
  • If you have specific questions about writing/self-publishing, you can ask them during your 5-minute stint and participants can answer.
  • The last 15 minutes of the meet-up is dedicated to a segment called “Ask a Publisher”. Kath C. Eustaquio-Derla, Head of Publishing for HS Grafik Print/PaperKat Books, will be there to answer some questions

STRICT REMINDERS

  • Please come on time. Since we only have max of 4 hours for the meeting—2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.—participants who come in at 5:30 p.m. won’t be accommodated anymore.
  • While it’s a casual meetup, remember that there is a photographer who will take your photos. Please come to rant in style. Who knows, you might find your The One there.
  • Strictly no “elevator pitch”. Please don’t trap Kath in a corner to pitch her your manuscript for publishing. There will be other opportunities for that. Kath also needs the WAPH meetings to rant about her own WIPs. We are making this a rule because during our past face-to-face events, people make a beeline for Kath to pitch stories. If this happens, there won’t be time for other people to rant.
  • We encourage people to socialize—introduce yourself to new people, connect with editors, artists, illustrators, proofreaders, and beta readers in the group. But please, no hard selling of insurance policies, rejuv sets, and other MLM products during the meeting. You can do that AFTER the meeting by connecting with people via social media.
  • Lastly, be kind, be professional, be on time.

FREE AUTHOR PROFILE PHOTOS

  • In each WAPH meeting, a photographer will take behind-the-scenes and candid event photos. If you’re a PaperKat Books author, mentee, mentor, and/or success partner, the photographer will take some solo photos that you can use for your author profile shots.
  • Check this book for author branding ideas.

The pioneer Writers Anonymous PH will happen on March 25, 2023 at a café in Bonifacio Global City. If you received a personal invitation from PaperKat Books via email, click here.
