On October 27, 2019, Ma. Desiree Cruz-Ballesteros officially launched her first self-published book titled Understanding Chronic Kidney Disease – Direct From A Patient (Survival Through Faith). The event was held at Book & Borders Eastwood City Branch.

Paperkat books founder and CEO Kath C. Eustaquio-Derla was the program host. Desiree talked about her background as a teacher, a corporate employee, and a businesswoman. She walked the audience through her journey as a first-time author. Kath gave a short but information-packed talk about book writing and self-publishing in the Philippines. Senior editor and fellow book author Paula Biance Abiog gave tips on how to edit one’s work and why editing is very important.

Dr. Patrick C. Eustaquio, a physician who read Desiree’s unpublished manuscript, talked briefly about the importance of awareness about critical illnesses, including chronic kidney disease, cancer, and HIV. He praised Desiree’s advocacy of using the book to raise awareness about CKD as well as early disease prevention. Registered physical therapist Stefano Regner taught everyone simple exercises they can do every day to improve blood circulation.

Sunlife’s Jelai Morano briefly talked about the importance of planning when it comes to one’s health and family life. Lastly, Desiree and Kath invited everyone to the 5th run of “How To Write A Book & Self-Publish It” on November 9, 2019 at Clock In The 30th, in collaboration with Copywriting Dojo Philippines.

The November 9 event is Desiree’s first speaking engagement as a book writing success story. Thank you for all your support!
