Description / Introduction

Sometime in 2016, I announced that I'm working on a dark, twisted, Indie film-like manuscript. I used the #MRPS which stands for MARIPOSA. I worked on this cover in 2016 and showed the manuscript to very few people.

After watching #DieBeautiful in Manila, I felt the need to move from Kath version 3.0 to Kath version 4.0. So this year, I'm challenging myself to turn the #Mariposa2017 manuscript into a screenplay. Self-taught, because I still don't know where and how I can study scriptwriting online (anyone wants to mentor me please, please, please, I need you guys!).

But for now, I'm sending this out to the universe.

The secret project is now out. #Mariposa2017 will be my first dark novel that tells the story of Mari, a woman who will do anything—literally—to get herself out of the wretched, poverty-stricken, prostitution-laden life in the heart of Metro Manila. It also paints her struggle to constantly remake herself so that people will never know where she really came from.

As the cover suggests, the "PO" in MARIPOSA is a play on the most used Pinoy term that suggests politeness (which, I think, can be really, really annoying when used inappropriately and excessively). And of course, MARIPOSA is a Pinoy slang for "Babaeng mababa ang lipad.

This is also why I traveled to Tokyo in May 2016. Researching for the book has taken me from Malaysia to Tokyo, Singapore and of course, the Philippines. And yes, I wrote the first seven chapters 36,000 feet in the air during our flights from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo and back. It’s going to be my most controversial story yet.

Status: 40% Completed
